Wytches #3 (2014)

Cover:

Hmmm, I think that man is on fire.

Plot:

Sailor has disappeared to somewhere, leaving only a stolen school bus behind.  Her parents are incredibly worried and frantic about it, but not as much as her father, who had a very weird encounter with a peg-legged woman.

Writing:

Good old fashion nightmare fuel.

Our Hero:

Man, I can’t imagine why the cops would think you were drunk when you tell a story like that!

Our Villain:

Do not underestimate that woman with her pixie dust and needle sir!

Our Side Characters:

I’m surprised cops are underreacting the whole, you know, school bus theft.

Horror:

My stomach hurts now.

Dialogue:

Yeah, I think you need to put out that light.

Art:

Just splash that paint all over the place sir!  That’ll make things look better!

Most Memorable Moment:

GAH!!  Blow out the match; blow out the match!!

Final Page:

And now, she is falling straight to Wonderland.

What We Should Take from This Comic:

Things are only getting weirder and more unnerving for this family; which begs a certain question: What is this pledge?

What We Do Take From This Comic:

I’m pro-logging and cutting down tons of trees from now on!

Rumble #1 (2014)

Cover:

Well he looks like trusty worthy fellow don’t he?

Plot:

One day, a young man named Bobby is tending a bar when one of his customers is attacked by a crazed scarecrow.  After dispatching it, he ends up with Cloud’s sword from Final Fantasy and has no idea what the hell is going on.

Writing:

I have no idea what the first two pages have to do with anything.

Our Hero:

Dude, you put that thing on EBay.  You probably get so much money for it.

Our Villain:

These have to be the politest hellspawn I’ve ever seen.

Our Side Characters:

You know what, I like this old curmudgeon.

Action:

Man, you knocked the straw right out of that guy!

Dialogue:

I’m assuming we are somewhere in the Deep South.

Art:

Man, what a lovely looking s**thole of a city this is!

Most Memorable Moment:

Not exactly the usual sort of folk see walk out of a dark alley.  Their blades tend to be much smaller.

Final Page:

Hmm, maybe it was a good thing you didn’t burn all of that straw.

What We Should Take from This Comic:

Something really weird and supernatural is going on in the city that Bobby lives in and they seem to want that sword.

What We Do Take From This Comic:

This comic and Goosebumps book, The Scarecrow Walks at Midnight, prove that scarecrows are legitimate threats to all of humanity.

Yay or Nay?

Intersect #1 (2014)

Cover:

It’s a mass of images of something or other.

Plot:

Two people seem to be running away from monsters and one may have another personality?  Beats me.

Writing:

Incompressible.

Our Hero:

It’s someone… that’s all I can be sure of.

Our Villain:

I think it might be Silent Hill, because honestly, everything would make sense if they are all trapped in Silent Hill.

Our Side Characters:

????

Action:

Great falling action!

Dialogue:

Who and what are you people talking about?!

Art:

Equally incompressible.

Most Memorable Moment:

That whole page about dream tips and saying to wake up 10 times.

Final Page:

Vague, unidentifiable people/creatures on a rooftop.

What We Should Take from This Comic:

This book requires multiple reads…

What We Do Take From This Comic:

…but there’s nothing in the book that makes you want to reread it.

Yay or Nay?
