Justice League of America #2 (2013)

Cover:

Generic team shot for the win!

Plot:

A mysterious Secret Society has interested Amanda Waller so she has the barely new team of the Justice League of America go out to check things out.  However, they first need to meet with each other.  Meanwhile, Martian Manhunter gives President Obama a reason for why the team is needed in the first place.

Our Heroes:

Catwoman, you are going have to return that or he’s going to notice.

Our Villains:

Who are you Mr. Bowler Hat?

Our Side Characters:

Amanda Waller.  Paranoid as ever.

Action:

Only if you count the lasso action as the very end.

Dialogue:

Stargirl’s speech is rather… silly.

Art:

R.I.P. Scott Clark

Most Memorable Moment:

There’s always that awkward moment when you meet your teammate for the first time and he’s covered in blood.

Final Page:

Don’t fall for it Steve!  The real Wonder Woman doesn’t wear skirts in her uniform!

What We Should Take from This Comic:

The Secret Society is slowly building their forces and the Justice League of America is in for one hell of a first mission.

What We Do Take From This Comic:

Still no Simon Baz…

Yay or Nay?

Justice League #18 (2013)

Cover:

Cyborg is getting pumped up and showing us his game face.

Plot:

Time to expand the roster!  Justice League starts checking out potentially new members for their team, but problems ensue naturally.

Our Heroes:

So Cyborg is now Big Brother.

Our Villain:

Somewhere in this new group, but who knows which one.

Our Side Characters:

Element Woman is slowly become a favorite of mine.

Action:

Just put Firestorm into the mix and 9 times out of 10, he’ll end the situation.

Dialogue:

Again, I’m liking this Element Woman.

Art:

Everyone’s lips are quite noticeable.

Most Memorable Moment:

Hi Atom!  No need for tryouts.

Final Page:

Hmmm… I don’t the person who left that message behind truly means that.

What We Should Take from This Comic:

Hoping the ranks to new members may have been a bad thing as the Justice League base has been hacked!  However, who was it?

What We Do Take From This Comic:

The comic hasn’t lost steam since Throne of Atlantis! Hooray!

Yay or Nay?

Yay

Aquaman #17 (2013)

Cover:

Aquaman, you got super strength.  Those rusty bars shouldn’t be holding you back.

Plot:

This is the fallout to the Throne of Atlantis, where Aquaman has officially taken over as King of Atlantis.  However the tensions between him, the surface world, and even Atlantis itself is starting boil.

Our Hero:

I see he is starting to get a stubble.

Our Villain:

Like he cares about your license.

Our Side Characters:

Doesn’t want to make a scene?  Oh I believe she’ll make a scene alright.

Action:

Not really any.

Dialogue:

So how does one translate Vuu Vuu Vuu Vuu anyways?

Art:

Oh, look at the all the sea creatures!

Most Memorable Moment:

Same as the Art.

Final Page:

Argh, zombie!

What We Should Take from This Comic:

Atlantean weaponry ending up the wrong hands, Mera arrested,  public opinion on Aquaman and Atlantis down the crapper, and a zombie king rising?  Man, things are not looking up for the new king.

What We Do Take From This Comic:

Oh yeah, the police going to arrest Mera.  This can only end well.

Yay or Nay?

Yay

Justice League of America #1 (2013)

Justice League of America #1

Cover:

There are over 50 variant covers of this one with different flags on it!  Collect them all!

Plot:

With the growing threat of metahumans and trust low for the Justice League, Amanda Waller and Steve Trevor decide it’s time to form their own team for the U.S. Government.  Who made the cut anyways?

Our Heroes:

Our group includes: a brutal space cop, a Martian, a former assassin, a thief, a super star, a vibrating teenager, a falsely accused terrorist, and (former) rich playboy with a heart of gold.  You know this will all work out just perfectly.

Our Villains:

Not officially revealed yet, but it’s probably the secret society mentioned at the end.

Our Side Characters:

Amanda Waller’s hair keeps changing from comic to comic from what I’ve seen.

Action:

Whip it!  Whip it good (couldn’t resist.  I apologize)!

Dialogue:

I’m with Catwoman, I’m not sure what the hell he is talking about.

Art:

This artist loves his inks, doesn’t he?

Most Memorable Moment:

Whoa!  Man, he sure knows how to surprise people.

Final Page:

He won’t die.  He has his own comic book.  He can die over there.

What We Should Take from This Comic:

It’s time for a new Justice League to be formed, with Steve Trevor as the leader, ready to fight superhumans and possibly the real JL in case things get out of control.  Also, a secret society has appeared, but what could that possibly be about?

What We Do Take From This Comic:

This team is going to crack and crumble after only one mission, isn’t it?

Yay or Nay?

Yay

Justice League of America's Vibe #1 (2013)

Justice League of America’s Vibe #1

Cover:

He has the power to make circles?

Plot:

Meet Francisco Ramon.  A normal teenager who is about to become involved with the United States Government agency called A.R.G.U.S. due to his unusual abilities gained during the Darkseid invasion 5 years ago.

Our Hero:

Meet Vibe.  Hero.  Dimension Gate Keeper.  Border Cop.  Also underage.  Perfect for the job!

Our Villain:

… ten dollars says that Gypsy (whoever that is) here will play an important role later in this comic.

Our Side Characters:

There’s nothing like brothers who want to use your paycheck for Blackjack.

Action:

Feel the vibration!  What?  The comic made the joke first.

Dialogue:

Now’s not the time for casual exposition while an alien shoots the area up with its laser beams.

Art:

It's art... what do you want me to say?  I got nothing.

Most Memorable Moment:

And now, a pose of running at the audience!

Final Page:

Daughter?  I’m having hard time imagining Darkseid getting it on with someone.

What We Should Take from This Comic:

With the dimensional stability quite screwy in Detroit, our dear friend Vibe is going to have a difficult job in the future.  Especially considering Darkseid could be coming back.

What We Do Take From This Comic:

Man, it must suck for him when school photo day rolls around.

Yay or Nay?

Yay

Justice League #17 (2013)

Justice League #17

Cover:

Looks like he as one of everything from our heroes.  Speaking of which, whatever happened to the Flash?

Plot:

The war with Atlantis is coming to a close as the traitor, Vulko, has been revealed.  However, even knowing that, the Justice League is going to need to lay a smack down on Aquaman’s brother in order to stop all of this.

Our Heroes:

Aquaman knows how to throw one hell of a punch.

Our Villain:

Man, yield was all it took?

Our Side Characters:

I’m already liking this Element Woman.

Action:

It is glorious, especially with this art.

Dialogue:

The power of the word “Yield” saves the day again.

Art:

The two page battle spread…  *getting teary-eyed* it’s beautiful!

Most Memorable Moment:

The same as what I said about Our Heroes.

Final Page:

One team growing stronger.  One team to start.  One team to destroy them all. This will be good.

What We Should Take from This Comic:

In order to prevent future wars from starting, Aquaman must leave the surface world and Mera behind to lead Atlantis.  After all of this trouble, things couldn’t possibly get any worse, could they?

What We Do Take From This Comic:

So when did Mera get a brand new costume anyhow?

Yay or Nay?

YAY!!!!
